VIOLETT BEANE [GOD FRIENDED ME]

WORDS BY IRVIN RIVERA

Like her TV characters Cara Bloom and Jesse Quick, actress Violett Beane is very headstrong. She’s the type who never backs down from a challenge.

In the CBS Television Series God Friended Me, Beane plays an online journalist who tags along the outspoken atheist Miles Finer in search of answers to the mysteries dropped by the GOD facebook account.

In this exclusive interview, the actress shared stories about her passion for acting, the Flash, cooking, and the mysterious God account from her TV show.

Violett’s love for animals is very apparent in her warm and sunny personality. She is the mother of her puppy Kora and her bunny Milo.

How did you get into acting?

I got into acting when I was a teenager. I was in theatre class in middle school and highschool and I just really liked it. I love doing it. I love being on stage, performing and singing.

Around my junior/senior year of highschool, when all of my friends started applying for college, I sat down with myself and I was like “Do I need to do that?” “What do I enjoy?” and at that time it was acting.

I decided to skip college and I found an agent back in my hometown and I started auditioning and sending in tapes and it just went from there.

Out of all the roles that you’ve played is there a specific favorite and why?

I’m really fortunate to have loved every single character I’ve played. Probably the most fun was Jessie Quick from the Flash because I was a superhero and that’s extremely badass. That’s probably the most fun and the fans are so exciting and so welcoming to everyone on the show!

How was it to play Jessie Quick?

Playing Jessie Quick was really fun. When I first started the show I thought that she would have superpowers. So it was about a season in when she finally did and she got to put on a suit and that was one of the coolest moments of the show.

When asked if we can expect to see Jessie again-

Yeah why not? Jessie is busy on her earth fighting crime but she’s still around. I’d love to go back.

Violett’s dream role is to do a period piece in a TV show or movie set in the Victorian times or something set in the 60s and 70s. The hair and the outfits are something that excites her.

When Violett is not busy, she loves to camp, travel, bake and to cook. Cooking is something that she enjoys a lot as much as hanging out with animals.

Tell us about God Friended Me.

God Friended Me is about an outspoken aetheist who gets friended by someone calling themselves God on Facebook. And being the aetheist that he is he’s like “this can’t be real, who is this person?”

And the god account starts sending him friend suggestions for people and he sort of becomes this person of change in people’s lives.

I play Cara Bloom, she is an online journalist and in the pilot she is one of the people that Miles got a friend suggestion for. In the pilot you see that she’s struggling with the fact that her mom left when she was young. She actually came to New York in search of her and found her but she doesn’t know how to take the next step. When Miles and the God Account helped her figure it out and she starts to get her life back on track and she starts to stick around and help them.

Is there a big reveal about the God account this season?

They believe there is someone out there programming it. On each episode we’re uncovering different mysteries on who could be behind it and why they’re doing it.

What are the similarities between you and Cara?

I think Cara and I were similar in a way that we’re both so headstrong. She doesn’t back down from a challenge and she’s a journalist so she always wants to get down to the bottom of the story and I feel like we can relate in that way.

What would you do if God friended you?

I’d have to accept just out of pure curiosity.

If you were a book, what book would you be and why?

I’d probably be a diet book.

If I wasn’t an actor I feel like I would be a dietitian because I’m obsessed with food and learning why certain foods are good and bad for you. I feel like I’d be one of those books that teach you about food.
