SARAH J’VINE EMBRACING ETERNITY WITHIN

WORDS BY PETAR PETROV

Asking artists to put their work into words is often a little like asking a football player to showcase their athleticism through tennis – even if some moves and techniques translate well, that’s just not their true forte. An artist’s work is usually a creative expression of the most sacred nooks and corners of their inner world, and unless their creative expression of choice happens to be writing anyway, communicating something so intimate through any means other than their art can defeat the purpose to an extent.

However, when artists have a way with words and not just with their art, talking to them about it just adds another stroke of meaning to their work. And when the artist happens to be an ambient musician whose sound is reminiscent of the absolute classics of ethereal music like “Now We Are Free” from Gladiator and Enya’s “Only Time,” the conversation about her new album Embracing Eternity Within and her work altogether is bound to be replete with vivid imagery and spiritual truths.

Where do you get inspiration from for such abstract, ethereal music? Are there particular moments, experiences, activities you tap into, or it's more of a general state of mind, or something else? What's the creative process like?

That's a great question because a lot of the time the sounds that I hear are not birthed from an inspirational moment, like a traditional song would be, it’s almost the opposite. Usually, I am uninspired, feeling low vibed or eager to be alone, then as I rest, I hear the sounds, melodies that inspire me, almost like I am holding a bucket to catch the rain pour of inspiration from the sky and it’s not until the bucket is full that I realize all that I've captured. It astounds me really when I hear back the embraced moment.

Most times when capturing light language, you are tapping into high energetic frequencies that can not be articulated by the mind and therefore, it dives straight into the heart and emotions. I am either singing out the sounds I hear or I sing the tone in which the frequencies lie. But if I could define specific experiences or activities, it would be in the moment of surrender and reflection of all the times that I had spiritual encounters, for reflection activates the living energy and that comes by being still and seeking inward. Also, having a near death experience and seeing all the activity I saw, always showcases something spectacular.

The creative process, ha...Well I'm just amazed I found an equally talented spiritual producer that gets my lingo, my energy and the messages that made this process that much easier. When I came to my producer (gladius musica) to communicate a spiritual encounter,  I would convey to him the sounds, the message and feeling and frequency range, and allowed him to tap into that detailed encounter as I energetically transferred the moment... and boom, he got it, like that. Other times, he came to me with a continuation of an inspired track and I tapped into that and sang what was moving me.

How do you decide what you're going to sing? Does it just come out in the moment, kind of like improvised soloing with an instrument, or is there a clearer structure?

It’s very much improvised. If my producer came to me with music first I would improvise to the music and vice versa when I came to him with a tune then he worked with my melody. Spirituality is fluidic and vary rarely structured and being able to tune into that takes skill to hear and further dictate the sound and messages.

What about the instruments and sound effects, how do they come to be?

This part was cool because when I was in the spiritual moment, I would feel as if I was amongst a wind cloud filled with bubble like sensations. So I just relay this message regarding particular parts of the music and say, “hey, can you do a wind tunnel, bubble popping sound right after the violin?” haha. Luckily, when my producer worked on this project, he always meditated and took the energy of the messages I gave and worked in the moment to shape my vision.

Who would you say is your target audience? What does it help the listener achieve? Is it meant for a particular setting or purpose?

My music is for those desiring the connection back to their higher self and source, for meditators who like to go on soulful journeys, for healers, masseuse, and spa centers wanting to seek an energy infused sound to facilitate their clients experience.

The intention is for these tracks to bring a heightened sense of spiritual connections, stress free living, calming induced moments and even out of body experiences as listeners get lost in the sound and energy that it brings.

Do you think this album, and your music in general, would lend themselves nicely to movies, and if so, what kind of movies you envision your music being played in?

Oh very much so. My encounters and the sound captured matches similar scenes to Lord of the Rings, Avatar, Shannarah chronicles, space and earth documentaries, etc... I envision my music to be used in otherworldly discovery scenes of new worlds, a heightened emotional discovery, like when one discovers love in a way they never saw coming.

Do you think you could blend your music with other, more mainstream genres, are you open to such collaborations, or is your music too niche and autonomous?

I could see a beautiful mashup of a few genres, like pop and rock and definitely dance and trance music where it slides in and out of moods, depicting a person's energetic emotions, like anger from a breakup to hopeful for a new relationship. I may sound like a ballad soft angelic person, but I most definitely carry rock bones.

Who are your musical influences and idols?

I love Enigma, Deya Dova, Hans Zimmer, Chillout deer, Gladiator and Lord of the Ring soundtracks, Lisa Gerrad. Funny enough, I don’t listen to a lot of ethereal, heavenly sounds or choral music as a listener, I only capture it, so let’s just say that it's a constant sound in my head so I don’t feel the need to listen to it through speakers.

What are your future plans, do you have any projects you're working on or something else in store?

I would like to continue my awakening journey, translating light language into English. I love encouraging others to feel confident in their spiritual growth. But what is really tickling my senses is a sexual sensual energetic sound that arouses and awakens dormant sexual feminine energy to arise. I would love this work to be used in tantra practices, yoga studios and of course the bedroom for lovers.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Everyone has a place to live out their desires, dreams and gifts and it’s not always about getting the exposure or making money. Pursuing something that your soul aligns with, will always make you a happier and healthier human being, if we could tap into that voice each time or find ways to connect to your soul better, trivialities of this world just seems to fade away and your true self can step forward. (Hence why I created this album) I feel so sad when I hear people talk down in themselves. If they only saw their greatness, no amount of fear could hold them back.
