What’s your story in a nutshell?

I grew up in Norway with a dad who loved gospel music so that was naturally around a lot. After a few years in the Norwegian music scene I moved to LA and started remixing and producing rappers and singers, all while working on my own music. And now I’m finally finding my own voice and am starting to release the music I’ve always wanted to make.

How would you describe your music to the new listeners who just stumbled upon your music?

Unpredictable songs with RnB harmonies and electronic sounds.

Where did you get your musical influences from?

My foundation is gospel music, but I have a lot of love for RnB and hip hop. OutKast, Usher, Craig David, Kanye has some of my favorite records growing up. Then I discovered James Blake and Hudson Mohawke and fell in love with electronic music.

Tell us more about the two-part EP’s I O U. What are the similarities and the differences between the two?

Every project I make I pick something I want to get better at. I O U 1 was very focused around sound design and experimentation. I O U 2 was more focused around lyrics and vibe. Thematically 1 is about family and friends and experiences in the world after getting over a bad relationship. 2 is more about reflection and self-love.

Is there a particular song from I O U that resonates with you the most?

I think my favorite right now is FLAWS, but it changes from day to day.

What’s the inspiration and story behind the music video of VULTURES?

It’s an excerpt from a short film we shot to accompany I OU 2. There’s a lot of symbolism in the visual around self-love and reflection, which is the main subjects in IOU2.

You’ve produced and collaborated with several amazing artists in your career. At this point, who do you dream to collaborate with?

I would love to work with Erykah Badu, Frank Ocean, James Blake... anyone who makes soulful music and are willing to experiment.

Where do you draw your inspirations from?

Mostly from events in my own life or my friends’ lives. I also am very inspired by sounds and love to collect them.

Walk us briefly to your creative process. How does an idea/emotion/inspiration translate to music?

It usually starts with the concept for me and then the best, the production and the melody all happens at once. Lyrics might take a while for me and then I love changing a lot of production things last minute before it’s released.

Top 3 songs in your playlist right now.

Joni Mitchell - California

Flipp Dinero - Leave Me Alone

Lil’ Mo - 4Ever (feat. Fabolous)

Is there any advice that you can give to an aspiring artist out there? How can they become successful like you?

Trust your instinct, make an insane amount of music, and never listen to anyone’s opinion.

If you were a book, what kind of book would you be and why?

A book about music with a lot of mixed philosophy and broken grammar.
