WORDS BY IRVIN RIVERA
One thing that most people don’t know about the towering Ser’Darius Blain is that he loves to cook.
Ser’Darius plays the scientist, Galvin Burdette in the 2018 Charmed Reboot. He is Macy’s love interest and offers SOME potentially exciting character development after THE mid-season break’s episode.
The actor also played the young Fridge from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
In this exclusive interview, discover Ser’Darius’ stories, origins, and journey as an actor and find out why he dreams to play Marvin Gaye and Muhammad Ali.
When asked about his most memorable acting experience, Ser’Darius answered:
“I’ll give you two” He said, despite stating how hard it is to narrow it down to only one.
“The first booking I ever did, my first job was Footloose.
I moved to LA in 2010 and was dirt poor. I had like $35 to my name and I started auditioning for Footloose.
I was looking for jobs. I got a couple of restaurant jobs to kinda get me by and I was on my way to my 7th audition for Footloose (in between going from one job to another) I got a call from my agent telling me that I booked Footloose. I swear I had a mild stroke on the 405. I had to pull over. I was so happy. “
“Tears. I called my mom. We both cried on the phone because we had been going through so much for so many years.
That’s probably one of the most memorable career experiences in my life.
Last year, I shot a film called The Last Full Measure, which will be out this year, with Samuel L Jackson. I went to Thailand for about a month and I had this incredible spiritual rebirth while I got the chance to do an incredible job that I really enjoy.”
Although Ser’Darius has been booking a lot of really good roles, one favorite that stood out was his guest-starring role as Brian Johnson from an episode of Chicago PD back in 2016.
In the episode he played a dad who lost his 6-year-old son to gun violence.
The role was memorable to him not only because he just lost a brother to gun violence earlier that year, but also he had just become a new father.
“Your work, your art, should be therapeutic and that was for me. The whole team over all the Chicago series P.D., Fire and all that, they’re incredible professionals. They just really let me have my fun and it ended up being one of the most popular episodes. I probably get recognized for that more than anything.”
“Yeah that was probably my most favorite acting job so far.”
And he added,
“I also really had a lot of fun in Jumanji.”
The actor said he was shocked when he booked the role on Charmed.
Ser’Darius received a Facebook direct message from one of the executive producers of Jane by Design who asked him to come in and audition for it. However, he was out of town promoting Jumanji but she still encouraged him to audition for it.
“I went through the script two times and I left. I was on my way to two more auditions. I didn’t really think that I was gonna get it to be honest with you.
I was testing for another show the next morning for a show on ABC. It was 7am and my manager called “I’ve been calling you all night!” My phone was dead. And she told me I booked Charmed and I went nuts!
I kinda lost it. I grew up watching Charmed when I was 12 with my cousins so it was cool to see it come full circle. “
Galvin’s character has been expanded and he hopes that he gets some sort of powers.
