GRAEME THOMAS KING [PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: THE PERFECTIONIST]
In the Pretty Little Liars world, everyone is a potential suspect.
English actor, Graeme Thomas King plays the hot scientist, Jeremy Beckett from the new spinoff show Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionist.
In this exclusive photoshoot and interview, read more about Graeme’s origins, his similarities with his character on TV, his dream project and why he would be a Shakespearean play kind of book.
Hi, Graeme! Tell us a little about your story. Who is Graeme Thomas King?
Hello! Well, I’m from the UK, born and bred in Portsmouth which is on the south coast of England. I did most of my schooling there before going to university in Liverpool, eventually moving to London to do my masters and pursue a career in finance. I didn’t last particularly long in finance before deciding I needed to do something else with my life. I found acting and I really haven’t looked back since. Its everything always wanted without really knowing that I ever wanted it.
As an actor, what type of roles and genres do you normally gravitate towards?
It’s a good question. I love characters that bridge the gap between good and evil, right and wrong. Complex people I suppose. That’s fun to play but I always love watching those type of characters on TV, film or on stage. Tony Soprano is a good example. He does horrible things but is he a bad guy?
What can you tell us about your character, Jeremy Beckett from your new show, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists? Are you guys anything alike?
I can probably tell you very little but what I can say is Jeremy is a scientist who works for Hotchkiss Industries. At this stage of the show, I can also say he’s deeply in love with Caitlin and would do almost anything for her. He’s very charming but certainly not to be crossed. I’d say we are alike in many ways, firstly were both English, which was a nice coincidence. Jeremy is highly intelligent, I’m not sure I’d say the same about myself. However, we do have a similar sense of humor though. I found myself laughing at a lot of the jokes written in for him.
Did you watch the original Pretty Little Liars or read any of the books prior to booking the role for the spinoff?
I watched a bit of PLL prior to shooting, and I read both of The Perfectionists books, written by Sara Shepard. Turns out the books are very different to how the show has developed but it was very helpful and I highly enjoyed reading them. I always love projects that are based on books. Reading them prior makes me feel as if I’ve done my homework.
Did you feel a lot of pressure getting casted in such a big show like PLL?
Not really, I believe our show can and will stand on its own merits. It’s a spin off but to me it still has the feel of an original production. There’s been an immense amount of love and support from the fans which certainly eradicates any pressure, they want the show to be a success and they’ve been excited since it was first announced. It’s lovely to feel that amount of support.
Describe the new spinoff in three words.
Dark, cunning, titillating.
What’s your dream project?
Putting it out there, I would adore to be in The Crown. We’ll see.
Aside from acting, what do you normally enjoy doing in your free time?
When i'm home you'll usually find me playing cricket on the weekends. I grew up playing a lot of sport and it was my dream to play for England at cricket. Alas it didnt work out.
If you were a book, what kind of book would you be and why?
Interesting question. I suppose id be a Shakespeare play, as a lot of it sounds like nonsense and can be quite frustrating, but give it time and it’ll start to make sense.
If you had the chance to help any specific charity / organization, which one would it be and why?
Heads Together is a wonderful charity based in the UK aiming to eliminate many of the stigmas attached to mental health, providing services for people with mental health issues as well as just generally opening up the conversation about mental health that we really need to have. Mind is a similar charity that I would love to get involved with. The reasons why are pretty obvious. Additionally, my mother has done volunteer work for Save The Children for over 20 years, id be very proud to carry on that legacy. I can have more than one charity.
