Who is Cailee? How would you describe yourself in a nutshell?
A quirky, passionate, and hardworking 17 year old singer-songwriter!
Where are you originally from? Tell us about your hometown.
I'm from Chesterfield, MO! It's a little suburban town. It's funny because when I came to LA I realized how small my town really was!
How did music get started for you?
It all started when I got a guitar in 2nd grade for Christmas with a little fake Taylor Swift signature. Since then I taught myself how to play and just wrote as I grew up.
How would you describe your music?
I would definitely describe it as pop. I have aways loved pop music. Everything I would write and listen to always came back to the genre. My music also always has deeper meanings. You could always just listen to the songs and have fun or really pay attention the lyrics and hear the meanings and stories behind them.
What’s your goal with your music? Is there a particular message you want to send out?
Yes of course. My goal is to connect with people through creating good music. I want to send out the message of just being you and it being okay to go through rough times and emotions and learning to embrace them and learn from these experiences.
What was the process like creating your EP “Overthinking”? How long did you spend working on it?
I knew I wanted to finally create a project for my fans, so me and my writer buddy sat down and wrote a group of songs over a few months. We would start every song pretty much through jamming and kind of playing piano and guitar until we got into a groove. It was a lot of fun.
The music video for your single “Anchor” is beautiful. What inspired the concept for the video?
Thank you! I actually came up with whole concept literally sitting in the car. I just was listening to the song and closed my eyes and could just imagine every scene. The chains represent having to face yourself, the water represents drowning in your own thoughts, and the color represents emotions overwhelming you.
Do you have a favorite music video by another artist?
When I was younger I loved Katy Perry and Taylor Swift's videos, they were always fun and such a cool layout of the stories in the songs. And recently I think Selena is crushing the music video game. Her music video for "Bad Liar" is so good.
Who are some artists you’re inspired by?
I have always been inspired by Taylor, and Lady Gaga. I also love Sam Smith. Honestly though, so many artist big and small inspire me for different reasons.
What is your proudest moment in your career so far?
When the “Anchor” music video hit a million views. I cried. Just to know that so many people watched the video and listened to the song made me feel so good. Thats what I wanted.
What experience has most shaped you?
Definitely releasing my EP. It was really the first time I did a project as an artist so it showed me what I would do differently next time and what I really liked.
What keeps you busy aside from music?
Just being a teenager. I try to really keep myself busy with fun things to keep me balanced. I love baking and cooking any chance I get. It's a huge stress reliever to me.
Omg, so many things. I'd love to make a song with Justin Tranter.
What are you reading?
Nothing at the moment but my favorite book is Buddha Boy or The Wave.
Currently binge watching?
Any advice you can give to aspiring musicians out there?
Be yourself and ALWAYS go with your gut. If it doesn't feel right, it isn't.
If you had the chance and opportunity to help a specific charity, what would it be and why?
I love working with charities and I have worked with many. One that I haven't had the chance to work with yet that I'd love to is Best Friends Animal Society or another animal charity because I LOVE animals. :)
