Tell us about your background. Who is Preston?
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, into a fun-loving and musical family, I taught myself to play guitar with my fingernail, because I didn’t like to use picks. I liked to stay busy in academic and nonacademic endeavors - I played on a National Homeschool Basketball Championship team, and had 34 college credits when I graduated High School. I am a cross between Tarzan, Yanni, Indiana Jones, Eddie Van Halen and Jackie Chan. My parents have always encouraged me to try different things, so I have a heart for adventure. I make a mean pancake and a meaner 2” thick waffle.
When and how did modeling start for you?
Modeling was something I turned down,at first. My sister is a model, and one day I went to see her at a local fashion show and realized what it was all about. My sister volunteered me the next year for a local Fashion Week, and I had a blast. I love creative people and environments, and fashion is a playground for that.
Do you remember your first ever casting / audition?
Yes - it was for that same Fashion Week, and actually all I remember after walking in was walking back out to the car - I was so nervous!
What is your most memorable modeling experience so far?
At a fitting early in my career, the designer asked who the most adventurous in the group was, and I raised my hand. I do parkour, and am always flipping off of and climbing things….this time my adventurous spirit landed me in a pair of pastel briefs under transparent crocodile print pants. It was a lot of fun, and I liked the shock factor.
Now that you’re an actual signed model, do you have any preconceived notions about the industry that was changed as soon as you started your career?
I think a lot of people don’t realize there is a lot of waiting time in the industry - and at the same time you have to be ready for anything daily.
What is it about modeling that you think is the most appealing to you?
I think modeling is such an opportunity to emote; it is almost like acting. Every picture tells a story, and the collaboration between the photographer, designer and model is always a fresh experience. Runway is more like theatre, and shoots are more like movies.
What else do you do aside from modeling?
I have several passions. I am a diehard musician; I love instruments and work primarily with guitar, vocal and composing. Parkour is my preferred form of exercise, but I also participate in fencing, archery, martial arts and trail running. History is another passion of mine, from American History and European History to Ancient Civilizations. I am considering a future in the medical field, but for now I am working on my Doctor of Naturopathy degree. I am fascinated by heath and nutrition.
You can sing and you mentioned that you have been a vocalist to several band/s? What was that experience like and how do you think it can be connected / helpful to you now as a model?
I think any stage experience helps you on the runway or in front of a camera; nerves are a real thing, and confidence comes from experience.
What do you think is the proudest moment of your career so far?
Winning Male Model of the Year at the MB EXPO in Dallas this summer, where I closed the Fashion Show.
I have three answers for this question: for modeling, a GQ cover, or a Calvin Klein campaign. For acting, stunts for a Star Wars Movie. For music, a festival concert where I got to perform with Queen, Van Halen or Men at Work.
Top 3 music from your playlist right now.
Deep Purple’s “Highway Star, Yanni’s “The Rain Must Fall,” Garrett Borns’ “Faded Heart.”
Top 3 favorite movies
In no particular order: “Good Will Hunting,” “The Princess Bride,” and “Star Wars, Episode Six, Return of the Jedi.”
How do you balance your time?
I start by making sure my schedule allows for enough sleep. If that happens, everything else seems to fall into place. During the day, I schedule my obligations, and fill the extra time with songwriting and exercise. And eating. Lots of eating.
What do you usually do for fun?
I love nature, so I love to find an open place with green trees, where I can breathe, adventure and chill out.
Name one person that you dream to work with
Donatella Versace - if you work with her, you know you have made it in the industry.
How do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to have established myself in the modeling industry on the runway, as well as print, while travelling the world. Hopefully, I will have had time to continue work on my music and have released my work in that industry, as well.
Any advice you can give to any aspiring young artist/model out there?
Be original, and believe in your own vision. Be open, honest, and ready to work hard. Stay busy and focused on your goals.
If you’re a book, what type of book are you and why?
A Sherlock Holmes mystery, because my life has a lot of twists and turns, some high brow humor, I run on instinct and trust that good will prevail.
If you will be given the chance and opportunity to help a specific charity, what would it be and why?
American Diabetes Association. Both my father and older brother are Type 1 Diabetics, diagnosed their Freshman year of college, and I would love to see this chronic illness cured.
